There is nothing original in art, sure. The answer is all about recombination — throw away your textbooks, or rather, read your textbooks and do not follow them blindly, but rather think “I like this and want to be like it, but I would do it this way or that way with these differences”. This and that may also be from other textbooks, but you shine through in the recombination and create something of interest and value. Not just-another-acoustic-guitarist-singing-about-break-ups.
