Blog 380: This Wreckage Version Gamma: RELEASED

As His Majesty the Emperor’s Expedition Force sets down on the shores of a mysterious continent, dark forces are already waiting…

This Wreckage is a massive singleplayer action-adventure RPG map for Warcraft III: the Frozen Throne. Version Gamma is compatible only with version 1.24+ of Warcraft III, due to additional editor features added to the game in that version.

I hope it’s worth it.

Fire & Ice requires you to find a very hot rock. It can be found in a little passage through a broken wall, I think it’s on the south wall of the big chamber with the spiral on the floor. The passage is blocked by rocks until you activate the quest.

  8. This is the best single player map in Warcraft 3. Nothing even comes close. Good gameplay, tons of side quests, and a solid story. I only wish that there are other Warcraft rpgs of this calibre. The Open RPG types popular on BNet are all weak.

  9. Instead of creating a third map (that requires a lot of time) why not improve again this one?
Maybe an extra\secret small-adventure after the death of Five, (with the 2 guys in the secret cinematic) or a bonus battle in the arena (I’d like to face Chaos again, but in that awesome arena as a random battle), that would be another great addition to a great map.

  10. I have done everything I can do in the map, exept one thing: The Arthstone. What I have to do with it?

    Like

  11. At the end the best wish is the “Quest” one, because with it you get the Arthstone (don’t know how to use it), the sword (before facing Five), and the hidden sequel cinematic (after completing all the 52+1 quests). So choosing the sword or the cinematic is pointless (same thing about the gold and the lumber).

I have another question, who is the robot guy with the mechanical scorpid in the hidden cinematic? Another Fallen Champion maybe?
I fear we will never know who is he….xD

    1. You’re absolutely right — the Quest wish is the “best” choice. I’m a completist whore and the map is designed so that you can experience everything in an optimum run.

  12. I think I’ve done everything that this awesome map can offer. I’ve done about 49 quests, there are 50 of them? I’ve not chosed the secret one because I prefered the Sword wish (it’s much better than the axe).

Two last questions, what about the Arthstone and the Captain Zhao guy near the temple? I can’t reach him.

And I’ve found 19 seashells too.
The sequel wish is the best one in my opinion, I tought that the map will continue with another hidden quest with that wish, but I was wrong…xD

  13. Hell yeah !
Finally done, after 7 hours 40 minutes of nice gameplay. This map is a true jewel, i allready played a previous version, i’ve to say the pleasure was allways the same.
Found 19 seashells, did 50 quests, dunno how many they are ^^ And, well, i wasn’t able to found the use at the arthstone, so sad.
    Cmon, just a little clue? … 😉
Thx for your hard work !

  14. Nevermind the hermit…thanks, I’ve done his quest.
About the Upgrade bug, I don’t remember exactly when it happened, I’ve just noticed that it happened twice.
I suppose that the secret cinematic (sequel wish), is some sort of sequel? Maybe with Starcraft 2?
    Damn…your maps are just too addictive… 🙂
A third one would be perfect to complete this saga, but I bet it won’t come…
Aniway with this update the map is better than ever! (it even surpass The Legend of Magnador, in every aspect)

PS: It will change something if I collect all the seashells? I’ve only 17 of them, and The Granter of Wishes has appeared.
And what about the Lumber wish? It seems useless…

    1. Hmm, I’ll look into it.
You’re right, the third one will never come. But I still have plans for it (though they do not involve SC2, no).
Seashells provide bonus points the more you have, but once you’re past the threshold that’s all the in-game benefit you’ll get from them.
You’re right, Henrik has no use at all for lumber.

  15. Don’t know if it’s a bug but there’s a possibility, It’s about the “Upgrade” quest, this quest actually happened to me twice.
Except this (and correct me if I’m wrong) I found the map a lot harder than before (the characters are weaker now and the monsters stronger).
I have a question, what about the hermit guy on the montain? He doesn’t want to talk with Henrik….

    Like

    1. Under what circumstances did “Upgrade” happen twice? Can you remember any particular event triggering its second activation? Did it re-occur while you were half-way through doing it?
Yes, the difficulty levels of the map have been adjusted. As long as you keep whoring side-quests, however, the game should not be overly taxing.
The hermit is associated with a particular side-quest, and he won’t speak to Henrik until that quest is activated. Unless you’re saying he won’t speak to you even when it has been activated?

      1. You can’t start the upgrade quest more than one time. But you can finish it every time you want because you can remove and give the gem to the scholar again and again, but the ancient knowledge dont win any more bonus. You should make the item to be destroyed after the quest is over.

  16. I like all the changes, new monsters (I love the new tree monsters. awesome model. I like the mist one too.), new missions (like the one you have to , new dialoges (“It’s natural?” “Can I touch it?”) and new areas (like the hidden hut in the swamps).

Liek I said before: the best map I have played.

  17. Just have to tell you Rao… Your maps are positively engrossing. I just finished playing through this map and it has become my number 1 favorite single player RPG. Close behind in second is When The Freedom Slips Away (Although I don’t know if you would necessarily classify that as an RPG.)

I was just wondering if there are any other maps of your that I’ve missed out on or if you have any future plans for more story lines as awesome as this one? If so, keep up the wonderful work.

    1. I’m glad that you enjoyed it! No, you haven’t missed anything… The Islands in the Sky series was pretty story-lite and I haven’t finished/released anything else.

I am currently working on a sci-fi total conversion singleplayer map, but it probably won’t come to much. I have plans for Starcraft II as well. I don’t currently have plans to create anything as large as This Wreckage, but then again, I didn’t never intended that to be as big as it turned out. As for the storylines… Only time will tell. I hope they’ll stay reasonable.

      1. Well in all honesty, another map that’s the Quantity (And Quality!) of This Wreckage would simply be amazing. I can understand if maps as immense as this one take an outrageous amount of time. I used to be into map making myself, so I know how tedious terrain and triggers can get.

Despite this, I hope that you continue to make maps of such wonderful caliber, and if you ever find the need for any map testers for anything, I’d be more than willing to help you out.

Kudos again, for a great 6+ hours of enthralling WC3 gameplay. (Loved all the references in it from When the Freedom Slips Away) =)
